We often get many questions from our guests regarding their cottage, amenities, and upcoming stay. To answer some of the most “Frequently Asked Questions” we have created this FAQ page where you can find the answer.
If you have any other questions not covered in this section, please give us a call, or send us a quick email. You can contact us and find our phone number here.
Q: What kind of appliances can I find in my cottage kitchen?
A: Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with the following appliances: fridge with freezer, 4 burner electric or propane stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and toaster.
Q: Is the water at the cottage safe for drinking and cooking?
A: We are on a county well and our water goes through an extensive filtering system and a non-chemical UV sterilization process to ensure the safety of our water. The water is tested in accordance with the Nova Scotia drinking water supply rules and is regulated by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment. In addition, each cottage features a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system in the kitchen for drinking water and cooking purposes. With this system there is no need to purchase bottled water unless a personal preference.
Q: Do I need to bring my own towels, sheets, and blankets?
A: Each bed in your cottage is made prior to your arrival and you will find plenty of towels in the bathroom and additional sets in the bedroom.
Q: Do I need to bring my own dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans?
A: No need to bring dishes, cutlery, pots, or pans. Each cottage is fully equipped with plenty of dishes and cutlery. In addition, you will find many different cooking utensils.
Q: Is there anything else provided in the cottages?
A: Larinda’s Landing provides toilet paper, garbage bags, dishwashing tabs, dish soap, kitchen green scrubbies and coffee filters. Please ask at the office if you need more than what was provided in the cottage. Since Covid-19 Larinda’s Landing no longer provides paper towels or Kleenex.
Q: What grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants are close to Larinda’s Landing so I can pick up what I want enroute?
A: From Halifax take Provincial Hwy 103 west to Exit 5 (Tantallon). Once you take Exit 5 you will see various grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants and the NSLC enroute to Larinda’s Landing.
From Yarmouth take the Lighthouse Route or Provincial Hwy 103 east, to Exit 6 (Hubbards). In Hubbards you will find a grocery store, NSLC, gas station and a few restaurants.
Q: What do I do when I arrive after the office is closed?
A: Even though our office is closed after 5 PM, you will find on the front door of the office, your name, the cottage name (and number) plus directions to access your cottage.
Your cottage will be unlocked with your name posted on the door, lights turned on and the key(s) to your cottage left on the kitchen table.
On the fridge you will find the Wi-Fi password plus other important information. There is also a guest directory binder which contains after hour contact numbers and other guest and cottage particulars.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: You can find our cancellation policy here.
Q: Do we have our own fire pit?
A: There are 6 fire pits on the property which are for all our guests to use. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a private fire pit for each cottage, so we ask our guests to share these fire pits if all are in use.
Q: When are we allowed to have a fire in the firepit?
A: Every day after 2:30 pm there is a provincial government requirement to check their website www.novascotia.ca/burnsafe to ensure it is safe to have a fire. Please follow these regulations to ensure compliance with the government by-law.
Q: Is there firewood supplied at the fire pits?
A: We sell firewood by the bundle at a price of $ 15.00. This includes some kindling and newspaper to get started. Firewood must be purchased prior to 4 pm and guests are responsible for picking up at the office.
Q: Is there a laundry facility on site or in my cottage?
A: There is a coin operated laundry room on site between cottage #2 and cottage #3 which is open 24/7. Please note the washing machine takes two loonies (1-dollar coins) and the dryer takes three loonies (1-dollar coins). Change is available at the office.
Q: What kind of TV's are there in the cottages?
A: All cottages have Internet TV's with (ATOP) channels and ROKU movies.
Q: Is there Wi-Fi in my cottage?
A: All cottages have Wi-Fi. The password is located on your fridge magnet.
Q: Can we have additional guest(s) visit our cottage?
A: Based on the size of our property a limited number of daytime guests are permitted to visit your cottage. We ask our guests to advise the office of any guest visitors.
Q: Can I park my car at my cottage?
A: There is a designated onsite parking spot for 1 vehicle for each cottage.
Willow's Meadow has parking down by the water but not directly by the cottage. Guests in the Crow's Nest and Captain's Quarters will have to park their car up by the road and walk around to get to their cottage.
Q: Are your cottages pet friendly?
A: Larinda's Landing is a dog friendly property and allows up to 2 small to medium sized dogs per cottage. Fees are $20 (plus tax) per dog per day. See dog policy here.
Q: Can you swim at the beach at Larinda's Landing?
A: Yes, you can swim at our small private beach. The water is fairly calm on most days and is great for smaller children to get familiar with the ocean. Our beach is approximately 100 feet long which makes it easy for children to navigate and, above all, enjoy hours of fun in the sand and the water. Since we are on the Atlantic Ocean and have high and low tides daily, we cannot control the amount of seaweed that washes up on the beach. We do our best, however, to clean-up the beach seaweed, as necessary.
Q: Do you supply beach towels, or do we need to bring our own?
A: We have a limited number of beach towels on site, and they are available in the guest laundry room. We recommend you bring your own beach towels.
